Exhibition Opening – Lynn Xu: And Those Ashen Heaps That Cantilevered Vase of Moonlight

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Tucson presents poet Lynn Xu’s debut exhibition, ‘And Those Ashen Heaps That Cantilevered Vase of Moonlight’. Based on her book of the same title, this monumental new commission features large-scale banners, video, audio, and site-specific interventions.

Xu’s dynamic use of rhythm and scale on the page is transformed in this exhibition into an environment that engulfs the viewer within the text. An ambitious experiment in installation, translation, and format, ‘And Those Ashen Heaps That Cantilevered Vase of Moonlight’ conceives of the museum as a book, and underscores the act of reading as an intimate, time-based, and embodied experience.

Xu will stage a performance at the opening reception that transforms from a poetry reading into a dance party and back again, inaugurating the show with the author’s voice and a collective experience of movement.
